Bloomer
Dear people of the Flathead Valley Genealogical Society,
My name is Kai Bloemers. I’m a 25 year old history student at the Fontys School Tilburg in the Netherlands. I live in a city in the south of my country called Oss. In my spare time I like to do historical research concerning my family. It is one of my favorite activities.
During one of my investigations, I noticed that two people from my lineage (the Bloemers family) seems to have vanished from the records during the 19th century. A woman called Gertruij Bloemers and her son Jacobus Bloemers were untraceable in the Dutch archives. No marriage or death records could be found. Eventually I found the female relative had been buried in a mass grave at a deportation camp in the north of the Netherlands. I had no clue so far what had happened to her son Jacobus. After doing a lot of research I have found evidence that Jacobus Bloemers was buried at the catholic cemetery of Oconto Wisconsin.
I contacted the Oconto genealogical society and thanks to their efforts we discovered a lot of interesting things. Jacobus Bloemers, (later spelled Bloomer) had several children. One of them, called Peter Bloomer, moved from Oconto to Montana and eventually died in Kalispell. The people in Oconto also discovered that he had a son called Reuben Bloomer, also buried in Kalispell.
The major question I asked the people in Oconto was: 'are there any living relatives of the Bloomer family in the US?'
Altough the family name of Bloomer has disappeared in Oconto, I'm hopefull to find living family members in Montana to make contact for the first time in 160 years.
I was hoping that you, as fellow historians, would understand and would be willing to help. I really hope you are able to help me with my quest to find my lost family.
many thanks,
Kai Bloemers
